Formatting asterisks are stored, so they count. A counter measuring the rendered text is short by two characters per pair — and you find out when the description is cut off.

Can I use bold in a group description?

In messages, yes. In a group description it depends on the app your members use — some show the asterisks instead of bolding the text. That is why this tool writes plain text by default and asks you to check your own client before turning formatting on.

Do the rules I pick get sent anywhere?
