What a month of WhatsApp API messages actually costs
Per-message pricing by recipient country, with Meta's volume tiers applied the way they are billed — each band at its own rate, not the whole month at the rate you reached.

Meta charges by the country of the person you message, not by where your business is. "Rest of ..." covers the markets with no published line of their own.

What you actually get
Graduated tiers, the way Meta bills them
Most calculators multiply your volume by one list rate, which is wrong the moment you cross a threshold. Meta's tiers work like tax brackets: the first 100,000 utility messages to Germany stay at the list rate and only the surplus steps down. This one charges every band its own rate. Tiers reset each month, aggregate across your business portfolio, and apply to utility and authentication only.
The recipient's country sets the rate
Not where your business is registered. A German company messaging Brazil pays Brazil's rates, so what you pick here is a market list rather than your own country — including Meta's "Rest of ..." regional buckets, which is where a market with no published line of its own lands.
Per message since July 2025, from a dated card
WhatsApp has billed per message, not per 24-hour conversation, since 1 July 2025 — a page still explaining conversation pricing is explaining a model that is gone. These figures come from Meta's published USD card effective 2026-07-01, and that date and a link to the live card stay on screen beside the result. They are indicative: Meta's current card governs.
Common questions
Why is this total different from another calculator's?
- Almost always because the other one multiplied your whole volume by a single rate. Meta's volume tiers are graduated: reaching a tier unlocks its rate for the messages in that tier, not for the ones you already sent. Send 150,000 utility messages to Germany and the first 100,000 are charged at the list rate and only the remaining 50,000 at the next band's — so a flat multiplication by the list rate overstates the bill, and one by the reached tier understates it. The breakdown here shows each band and what it cost.
What separates marketing, utility and authentication?
- Intent, and it changes the price. Marketing is promotional — offers, launches, re-engagement — and has no volume discount at all, however many you send. Utility is transactional and follows something the customer already did: order updates, receipts, appointment reminders. Authentication is one-time passcodes and account verification. Volume tiers apply to utility and authentication only, so the same message costs a different amount depending on the template category Meta approved it under.
Are replies inside the service window really free?
- Yes. When a customer messages you, a 24-hour customer service window opens, and messages you send inside it are free — there is no per-message charge for them at any volume. That is why service appears in the calculator with no rate rather than being left out: it is usually a large share of a support team's traffic, and seeing it counted at zero beside the billable categories is the point. Only free-form replies inside that window are free; sending a template outside it is billed as marketing, utility or authentication.
